How to Make a Night Vision Scope

You have to be able to see your target so that you can accurately shoot it and maybe that’s why you are searching for how to make a night vision scope. You can make a night vision scope yourself that will help make your night time shooting a little better. This can help you see what a real store bought scope can offer as you can imagine it will offer way better vision. So without further ado here is how you can make your very own night vision scope.

Things You Will Need

  • Newspaper
  • Congo blue filter paper
  • Primary red filter paper
  • Toilet paper tube
  • Pencil
  • Utility knife
  • Glue gun
  • Soldering iron
  • Infrared LED
  • Button battery
  • Duct tape

First you want to get a piece of newspaper which you will lay out on the surface you will be using. This will protect the surface. Place the newspaper flat on the surface and then lay the Congo blue filter paper over the newspaper.

Next you want to take your toilet paper tube and place this on the blue filter paper and outline the circular tube on the filter paper. Then remove the tube from the blue filter paper and cutout the outline using the utility knife. Then go ahead and repeat the above with the primary red filter paper.

Now that you have your blue and red circles you want to place the toilet tube standing on the newspaper. Apply hot glue around the rim and place the red circle on the end and allow the glue to set for approximately five minutes. You will then apply glue to the blue circle cutout and glue this to the red cutout allowing it another five minutes to dry properly.

You then want to cut the toilet paper tube in half getting rid of the side that doesn’t have the filters attached. Place an infrared LED with the pins facing right onto the newspaper. Get the button battery and place it against the pins so that the plus contact is facing an upward direction. Solder the pin that is shorter to the top of the battery and allow the solder to cool for approximately a minute.

Next you want to place the toilet paper tube on the newspaper in a horizontal fashion so that the filters are facing the right. Heat up the glue gun and apply glue to the infrared LED’s side and then place this against the left side of the toilet paper tube so that the two pins attaching to the LED’s are facing the right.

Allow the glue to set for approximately five minutes. When this is dry you want to apply hot glue to the button battery on the bottom right corner where it is attached to the infrared LED while pushing down the button to ensure that it is secured to the paper tube.

And you’re all done – that is how to make a night vision scope.

Now all that is left for you to do is to affix your newly made night vision scope to your rifle. Attach the DIY night vision scope to your rifle with the end of filters towards you. You can use duct tape to secure the scope in place.

To power on your cope push the long pin below the battery and look through your scope to see if you can see better in the dark. If you followed the instructions properly you will be surprised to find that this simple device you made yourself has the ability to enhance your visibility that much in low light conditions.
